Kingstowne is a residential community in Alexandria, VA, just outside of Washington, DC. This large community of over 5,000 homes has a significant amount of beautiful green space and amenities for its residents, including several playgrounds.
Kingstowne partnered with us to bring updated play spaces to the community. Selecting from the latest BCI Burke playground equipment, Kingstowne and their Recreational Specialist, Bert Weltens, thoughtfully created play spaces that spark movement, a connection to nature and imagination. We recently chatted with Vicky Crews, the operations manager at Kingstowne, to ask her to reflect on what the playground renovation process was like for their community. Here is what she told us.
“This past spring, I met with Bert Weltens to walk the sites and to be part of the bidding process for the renovation of five playgrounds in our community. All Recreation and BCI Burke playground equipment were awarded the bid. One playground, Horgan Court, was renamed the Destination Playground, as that is what we wanted it to become, a place where our residents would want to drive just to play on that playground.
Bert and his team of designers did just that. They created a playground that residents come from far and wide to use. It is our largest at almost 8,000 square feet, so the team had a sizable footprint to be creative. Along with the other four playgrounds, that are engaging and well designed, the renovation process was seamless and a huge success. We also converted the playground mulch surface to artificial turf, which served to not only save the corporation money in the long run but became the icing on the cake to finish off the renovations. We thank Bert and the entire production staff, designers, and installers for bringing new features to our playgrounds and years of fun! We look forward to a great relationship in the coming years.”
