Montessori of Westminster is a private school that specializes in hands-on learning and individual growth. Part of their curriculum includes outdoor play and exploration, so naturally they wanted their playground and outdoor space to be an extension of the environment they create in the classroom.
Their 25-year-old playground was well loved and well cared for, but its age was starting to show. The Board of Trustees formed a task force to begin the process of replacing their playground. They set a budget, raised funds, and then went to work gathering numerous quotes and considering several manufacturers.
In the end, they chose All Recreation and manufacturing partner, BCI Burke, to help bring the vision for their new playground to life. Since exploration of nature is an important part of student learning, they let nature guide their selection of play events and color scheme.
Their playground includes a main structure with three slides, multiple climbers as well as educational panels like Hide the Numbers. There are also two extensions off the main structure of the playground that really keep kids in motion. The first extension, Nucleus® Intensity, is fitness-based equipment that challenges kids to keep moving and adapting. Events such as the Wild Web Rope Climber, the Plexus Overhead, the Plexus Tangle Climber and the Agility Arch all take movement to the next level. The other extension off the main play structure is known as RockIt®. This play event puts a rock wall on the playground and provides an opportunity to safely explore the challenge of climbing. RockIt® engages all muscle groups while at the same time providing a mental challenge.
